The Bed & Breakfast “Porta a Mari” is in the main street of Oristano, only 5 minutes walking distance from the old town, in a nice zone served by the public transports. From the B&B you can easy reach all the most important places of Oristano and a lot of shops are just round the corner.
Getting to the B&B is very easy: Via Cagliari covers all the town, from the north entrance to the south one. Directions in this page.
Why this name? Because the B&B is just in front of the place where, until the first years of the 20° century, there was one of the old door of the wall of the medieval city, the “Porta a mari” (Door to the sea): all the place around this door was called Porta a mari until few years ago.
The B&B is on the street where, every year, the last Sunday and Thursday of carnival, the parade of the Sartiglia takes place; from the balcony of our B&B you could see a long parade of the old costumes of medieval times and the great parade of the knights, guided by the Componidori.
At the same time, a lot of religious processions of Easter time (Holy week) march in front of the B&B. Perhaps the “scravamentu” is the best one: a statue of Jesus Christ is pull down from the cross and brought from the cathedral to the church of St. Martin.
The central position of the B&B allows you to easily reach all the beautiful beaches of the area, the little and nice villages around Oristano, even with the public transport: the main bus station is very close to the B&B and bus stops to the railway station are just in front of the B&B.
Since 2006, the B&B Porta a Mari is in association with other B&Bs of the old town: Intramuros association wants to give to you the chance to find the best way for a nice stay in Oristano: shops, restaurant, pizzerie, bars and a lot of several service are listed in a brochure that we will give to you upon your arrival.
